Survival Food That Fits Nicely in Your Backpack

I’m sure you have seen and probably even eaten energy bars that you can buy at any grocery store. There are many places that sell survival nutrition bars. What’s important to note is that these survival bars are good for you as they’re full of nutrients and can provide you with the calories needed to survive.

Of course just because you’ll have to survive, it doesn’t mean that you’ll have to get used to eating only nutritious survival bars. There’s nothing at all wrong with stocking up on these survival bars. You can buy them in bulk if you want, and they’re not bad tasting and can easily fit into your backpack.

There are a variety of different survival foods that you can buy. It is very simple to find a variety of foods all packed and ready to eat. Some of these foods even have a long shelf life, up to 25 years in fact. They’re also of very good quality.

Sometimes we think that while we are in the process of surviving, we’ll have to eat food that tastes like cardboard. This isn’t the case these days. Now you can buy gourmet meals instead of or in addition to basic survival foods. These foods can be purchased with varying lengths of time that they will last, from a few days to even months at a time.

These foods are very portable and can easily fit into you backpack because they’re freeze dried. One of the advantages of freeze dried foods is that they lock in the nutrients. They also lock in the taste so that when you’re ready to use them you just have to re-hydrate them.

Survival doesn’t have to be “boring” when it comes to food these days. You could even have pancakes and eggs for breakfast. You could have another very nutritious and traditional meal, oatmeal. Another option is to have fruits such as grapes, pears, bananas, strawberries or cherries. Gourmet meals include foods such as chili, soups, stews, lasagna or even a delicious favorite, macaroni.

There is such a wide variety of freeze dried foods available today. Freeze dried vegetables can be packed quite easily. You can have your greens such as beans, broccoli or peas. You could even have potatoes or corn. Aside from the basics you can even have chocolate pudding for desert or a sweet drink like chocolate milk.

No matter what you happen to crave, you’ll be able to find it in lightweight and convenient ready-to-go packets. You can even find food packets that contain packaged cheeses or meat.

There is another option in addition to freeze dried foods that you can buy in bulk. You can also buy Meals Ready to Eat or MRE’s. These meals are the same kind of rations that soldiers eat when they can’t get to the mess hall when they are out in the field.

These MRE’s are quite filling, although they might not be as tasty as the freeze dried gourmet foods. But they’ll keep you alive and can be packed in your backpack quite easily. Being kept alive is very important. If desired, these MRE supplies can be purchased in yearly quantities.

Other items such as beef jerky and granola are foods that last a long time and pack well. It’s important to have a variety of foods in your survival supplies. That’s a way to get the kids involved, have them help in choosing the foods they like and will eat. It’s also important to rotate your foods as well.

Rotating helps to keep your food supplies fresh and at the same time helps you and your family become accustomed to eating survival food. That way when the time comes to use your food supplies it won’t be a difficult transition going from “normal” food to survival food.
