Being prepared brings peace of mind. Being prepared to protect your family is a very prudent way to live your life. I would say that under normal situations most people will never need to deal with using a weapon to keep their loved one safe.
That being said, there have been situations recently where we can see how vital it is to have the right weapon and of course know how to use it. We would hope that the need to use a weapon never arises, but it’s best to be prepared than sorry. You can find almost on a daily basis stories in the media where people have been called on to fight back.
When you are in survival mode you will want a weapon that will be able to stop an attacker or intruder. Anyone that is determined to cause you harm will generally stop when coming face to face with a gun (as opposed to a knife).
You may now be asking yourself, “Which gun is the best survival gun?” Of course that’ll depend on the situation you find yourself in. Sometimes a handgun would be best. Other times a shotgun would be the best choice.
Often times those that aren’t familiar with guns will sometimes use words interchangeably to define more than one gun. As an example, revolvers and pistols or shotguns and rifles, but they’re not identical.
One thing to keep in mind is that whichever gun you decide on, make sure that ammunition is easy to find. There are many different makes and models of hand guns and any other type of gun for that matter. You’ll see hand guns with names such as Smith & Wesson, Taurus or Sig Sauer. Pistols can be used with one hand only if desired, while others like a shotgun are best used with both hands.
Many survivalists like revolvers. But revolvers don’t hold enough bullets. If you have to take time to reload them it will take too much time, especially when seconds count. If you want to be able to reload quickly, you’ll need to check out a semi-automatic pistol. The reason that semi-automatic pistols are so popular for protection is that you won’t have to wait to reload before firing the gun again.
Once the first bullet is in the firing chamber via the slide action and the gun is fired, the next bullet will automatically drop into the chamber. That way you can keep shooting in order to scare off or completely stop those who want to harm your family.
There are many different kinds of these semi-automatic pistols, including the well know Glock. The Glock is used by law enforcement and they are tough and durable pistols.
In addition to owning a pistol, owning a rifle is a must-have for the safety of your family. Depending on the type of rifle you purchase, the distance it can shoot will differ. Of course the expertise needed to shoot the rifle will vary defending on the rifle you buy. A rifle can shoot much farther and much more accurately than can a pistol.
You’ll want a gun that will be able to stop an attacker before they get too close to your home. You’ll also want a gun that’ll be able to handle close encounters as well. Because of these varying needs most survivalists will own a variety of guns rather than rely on only one type.
It goes without saying that guns can be used, and are used principally used for protection. But, that is not the only thing that a gun can be used for. You’ll want to practice using the guns that you buy in order to become proficient in their use.
You’ll want to go to a rifle and pistol range to practice. There you’ll find experts than assist you in becoming proficient.
You’ll also want to consider having hunting rifles on hand so that if you and your family do end up having to live off the land, you can do so. If there is no meat in your storage and you can’t get to the store you’ll have to hunt for meat.
