Prepper Lifestyle – Are You Ready For It?

Emergency Planning – Survivalists Versus Preppers

This is a topic that I have seen mentioned in other places. Generally speaking if you’re considering living the prepper lifestyle there are some things to keep in mind. By living the prepper lifestyle you’ll see some advantages such as its good for preparing your family for the future and being able to live a less stressful life. If you’re like me we may be getting tired of the “rat race” and we long for something more calming.

Some people have given up their suburban lives and they head on out to remote locations. But that’s not really what being a prepper is all about. Being a prepper isn’t about pulling yourself and your family away from society and living like a hermit in isolation.

Being a prepper is just living a life that doesn’t rely on others to see you through a short-term or a long-term disaster. Can we really afford to rely on other people when the going gets tough? Being a prepper can be a great way to live, but it isn’t of course for everyone.

Do you think there’s a way to tell who’s a good fit and who’ll just absolutely hate living the life of a prepper? First off, living the prepper lifestyle takes a complete commitment. The prepper life isn’t for you if you think you just want to dabble in it to “try it out” and see how it goes.

In other words, you’re either into it or you’re not. Simple really. If you’re ready to give up your current style of living up to now, and you’re ready to break away from the capitalistic mentality that society teaches us, then the prepper lifestyle is for you. That may be a hard one, not living with our capitalistic mentality.

Now, if you’re sure that you’re ready to just walk away from being dependent on others for your needs, then this is for you. But, you have to really believe that what you’ll be gaining is a better life for you and your family.

If you know that you’re ready to “get organized” and you’re committed to building your short-term and long-term inventory of goods and supplies, then the prepper lifestyle is something you’d find to be a good fit.

If you now realize that you’re ready to really become completey self-sufficient, that would be a good clue that you’re ready for a life change. You’re ready if you now want to learn more about self-protection and first aid and how you can better take care of yourself and your family in any circumstance.

I’m sure you’ve seen on the news or somewhere in the media how “wacky survivalists” live to the extreme. That’s not what being a prepper is about at all. What it does mean is that you accept that there are certain things outside your control Those things could impact your life tremendously.

What are “those things”? How about disasters, government collapse, etc. You’ll want to be ready for whatever comes your way. That’s when you know you’re ready for the prepper lifestyle.

Not everyone who thinks they are ready are actually ready. For example, if you’re in a relationship and your partner wants no part of it, you’re not ready. If your partner is dead-set against it or hates it or thinks you’re crazy, you’re not ready. You don’t want to risk ruining the relationship.

Another clue that you’re not ready is if there are some things in your life that you feel you just can’t give up – like a daily trip to the store or that expensive cup of coffee. If you set aside some money for supplies, but then spend the money eating out our shopping for a new pair of shoes or the latest video game, you’re not ready and the lifestyle isn’t for you.

If you rely too much on technology and have a strong attachment to the little conveniences of life, you’re probably not ready. If you can’t even imagine your life without modern technology, that’s a sign that you’re not ready.

You’re not ready for the prepper lifestyle if you’re unwilling to learn how to prepare for the future or you aren’t even interested in sustainable living. Most of us can envision a day when the worst case scenario happens. And if and when it happens to you, you’ll have to deal with it then, ready or not.

Are these answers set in stone? No, of course not. We all go through different phases in our lives. Maybe now isn’t the ideal time for you. But, tomorrow could very well be. Just like the old phrase “prepare for the worst and hope for the best” – that’s how I prefer to look at things.

I have just given us some things to think about. Please feel free to poke around our site. We will be adding new content constantly. Feel free to leave your comments. If there is anything you would like to be featured here, please let us know.
