Which Essential Survivalist Water Supplies Must You Have?

More than anything else, your body must have water in order to be able to survive. Your body just can’t function without it. Knowing that water is so essential to our survival, you must ensure that you’re well prepared with an abundant source to clean water.

More likely than not you will be able to find water in nature. But one of the problems with that “natural” water is that it can be filled with bacteria or other contaminants. So, for your most urgent water needs you’ll want to make sure that you have on hand water purification tablets to clean this “natural” water.

You can of course buy these tablets online and get a sufficient supply to last you until you are able to set up a more permanent water supply situation. You can most likely find these tablets at sporting supply stores as well. In addition you’ll want to be sure to have water filters on hand.

These filters are great because they can clean water for up to a week or longer, depending of the one you buy. They can take care of nasty bacteria, even the kind that can cause some pretty nasty illnesses.

These filters are great because they don’t weigh as much (portable kind) as bottled water if you’re wanting to include it in your survival kit. These filters work so well that they can purify water even from a swamp or swimming pool that you can use. Of course you’ll want to have containers to use so that you can keep the water stored.

A great short-term solution would be an emergency water bag that you can take with you in your backpack. These bags can hold up to 5 liters of water. Another option would be a water bladder that is also lightweight. You should be able to find these in sizes that can hold between 25 and 150 gallons of water.

Another option is what is called a water brick, but they don’t hold as much water. Each of these bricks hold less than 4 gallons of water. The great thing about these is that they are stackable and thus don’t take up a lot of room. We all know that space is very important when we are preparing ourselves for the time of need.

Since we are preparing our water supply for our family we should also consider water barrels. These barrels can hold about 55 gallons of water. One thing to take into account when investing in water barrels is that 55 gallons of water is quite heavy, like maybe 450 pounds. For this reason you way want to invest in a siphon pump for easier retrieval of the water to other containers.

Another thing to consider when you’re carrying water to transport to your storage container would be a water carrier. You can find ones that are collapsible and also inexpensive. They are also very portable if they ever need to be put in a backpack. The great thing about these water carriers is that they’re not rigid and they won’t crack in colder weather.
One thing that some people do is to invest in water test kits to make sure that their water purifying system has made the water safe to drink. That’s pretty important if you ask me. When we are surviving without readily available medical professionals at hand we can’t afford to get sick from drinking bad water. This holds true especially if you have small children.
