Do You Really Need A Survival Bunker?

You may or may not remember that during the cold war it was popular for people to build bomb shelters on their property. Today we can call a bomb shelter a survival bunker. These bunkers are shelters that can be made of different materials that you can use to keep you and your family safe during any kind of disaster.

I personally think it’s a good idea to have a shelter because you can stay protected from an attack or any other kind of danger. It has always been a good idea to have a safe place for your family to retreat to. As a matter of fact, years ago FEMA used to have pamphlets that taught anyone interested how to build their own shelter.

Some people think that a bunker is a pretty primitive place that they may have seen from the movies. They may have seen movies with a very sophisticated and costly shelter, like from the movie “Blast From the Past”. In this movie the father had built an underground shelter that looked just like their home above. It was stocked with everything the family needed to live on for several years.

Survival shelters are not at all like those old shelters. But they can range from very primitive with just the basic necessities to very luxurious that could have several thousand feet in which to live in. You’ll be able to find some of these bunkers listed in various real estate market guides.

Some of these structures can look like very nice underground homes. These structures can be either below or above ground. They can be built in your basement if you have one or they ban be built as a stand alone structure in another location. Another good idea would be to use a freight container that is hauled by an 18 wheeler.

They can be built from steel or any other suitable material. They can be built into your cellar if you have one. There is no right or wrong way to build a survival bunker so you can build it to suit your needs. The important thing is that it must be able to do what it’s intended to do, protect your family.

Wherever they’re built, the purpose of these shelters is to protect your family. This protection could be from a natural or a man made disaster or even from the force of an exploding bomb. The shelter could even be fireproof and even include a gun vault room.

You’ll need a survival shelter or bunker in case there is civil unrest, war, terrorism or some sort of government upheaval. Even dangerous weather demonstrates the need for a bunker, such as a hurricane, tornado or tsunamis. If there was ever a nuclear bomb to go off in the U.S., your family would be able to safely retreat to the shelter.

There are several way to obtain your shelter. You could build it yourself if you’re handy. You could work with a group or hire a professional company that specializes in survival shelters. Of course the cost will depend on the materials used, who builds it and whether or not it is basic or luxurious.
I have always been of the mind to plan for the worst and hope for the best. By preparing for the worst and having your survival bunker will give you peace of mind, even if you never have to use it. It goes without saying that you’ll have to make sure it’s well stocked and easy to get to.

But, I think the shelter also must be hidden away from prying eyes and also at the same time secure in order to prevent others from forcing their way in. We don’t want to advertise to the world that we have a shelter with provisions as that could invite those who just want to take what they want away from your family. It may be somewhat challenging to keep it a secret.
