You know that a survival blankets job is to increase the odds of you being able to survive in extreme conditions. The majority of these survival blankets are resistant to tearing. They usually have some kind of reflective material on the outside. In order to lock your body heat in some can even be used in water.
Survival blankets are very small and portable. Most of them when folded are about the size of an adult’s hand. They can be made from different materials. They are able to serve several purposes so that they can potentially save your life.
Survival blankets not only are available in lightweight versions but in heavier versions. This way the heavy blanket can be used to help keep the elements off of you. They can be rigged up over tree branches so that you can make a shelter from them. That way you’ll provide something to form a barrier against wind, rain or even sleet.
The lightweight blankets are made in such a way as to keep the elements off of you. But they’re not as good as a heavier blanket to make a shelter from.
Lightweight blankets are useful to keep the chill out. But if you’re going to a snowy area you would be best to consider the heavier blanket. Because of the different needs, survival blankets come in different weights, widths, sizes and colors.
As mentioned, blankets come in different colors. One important color is bright orange. Orange is what makes it easier for you to be found if a rescue is needed.
These blankets are large enough to go around two adults or even one adult and one child. It might be a good idea to test out your survival blanket so that you know just how large it really is.
There are also lightweight thermal survival blankets. These are designed specifically to keep you alive in blizzard conditions. These blankets are self-heating and use your body’s own heat to generate the warmth you need.
Another type of survival blanket is one that is heat reflective. They have a mirror type sheen on one side which makes them reflect. These blankets are highly visible. They’re good to use in extreme heat or extreme cold because the can deflect the sun’s rays and will help keep you cool.
There is another kind of survival blanket called an all weather blanket. These blankets are made of space age material that’s used by astronauts. These blankets can deflect heat or hold heat in, even in below zero weather.
These all weather blankets are very good to have in the event of an emergency or major disaster like a hurricane. If you live in one of the colder states and lose your electricity during the winter months these blankets will come in handy.
All weather blankets are also strong enough to act as a shelter. If you place the blanket in the bottom of a tent where it is cold and wet outside it will protect you from the cold and/or wetness of the ground.
